Congestion Charging Zones

Bristol is not big as London but introducing Congestion Charging zone or a similar concept will enforce more people to take public transport and bicycle rather that using cars. a link from Bristol council - http://www.bristol.gov.uk/page/environment/travel-and-air-pollution

Why the contribution is important

Introducing Congestion charging zones will ease the traffic and chances that traffic calms down.. more people will use the public transport and cyclists will be happy and safe..

The way to get people on public transport is to make it cheaper not to charge the earth for other transport. Actually thinking about it, as all transport in bristol is run by private companies there is actually no such thing as 'public' transport. Perhaps that is the bit that we need to sort out.

'enforce more people to take public transport'

You mean encourage, surely? Or is there no free will anymore, you will be 'enforced' onto a bus, or else! Yhin is right, get a decent bus service in place first and foremost, not tinkering around offering fares reviews which reduce some fares but increase others!

London has viable alternatives to car-driving whereas Bristol does not. Without a viable public transport system a congestion charge will be met with fierce opposition.
