Countdown timer on traffic lights

Install countdown timers on traffic lights to indicate both time to when traffic lights change and the time left for pedestrians to cross. This enables motorists to adjust speed as they approach lights about to change and to know how long they must wait before they can move again. Most importantly it allows pedestrians to assess whether they have time to cross the road or whether they should wait as lights are about to change.

I have seen these installed in St.Petersburg where they were invaluable for motorists and pedestrians and enormously impressed the British tourists I was travelling with.

Why the contribution is important

It massively improves road safety for motorists and pedestrians. In particular it puts a stop to `amber gamblers` as everyone can see when the lightsc are about to change. It is invaluable for older pedestrians who can see exacly how long they have left to cross the road before the lights change and can wait if they see only a few seconds left on the counter.

Well the idea is good but at this scenario of £90m cut council would not be very keen to implement this..

may be this could be saved for future.

Good idea but the problem with that would be stupid lute boy racers who would play the " lets best the timer to get through the lights " game, could cause some very serious accidents, good idea though I must say.
