Cycle safely to school - use the pavement

If cycling with kids was safer I KNOW more mums and dads would cycle them to school taking loads of cars off the road at rush hour.

There are 2 pavements on both sides of the road. Can 1 side be designated for children to cycle on between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30-4.30Mon to Fri? THe other side is for pedestrians.

Lets try it - a trial month - June, its sunny(!?) Lots of pizes for children that cycle, promotions etc etc - count how many roads move faster etc. Children will do more exercise (very positive) and the city will start moving again

Why the contribution is important

Simple solution to help ease congestion.Children get fitter. Parents terrified of taking children onto the road on their bikes don't have to. With a physical separation between bike and cars/buses/lorries - cyclists will be safer. In addition there will be fewer car journeys around Bristol.

My children have nearly been hit by cars several times when the cars have been pulling out of their driveways too quickly and not looking for pedestrians before doing so. I can't imagine what would happen if they are going on their bicycle on the pavement. At least if they are on the road, the car drivers are looking for other cars there.

Great idea and sooooo simple, you wonder why we haven't thought of it before.

We have too many cyclists on the pavements as it is. Can parents not walk their children to school? I did with mine.
