Dutch House arts centre

Whilst many people who have lived in Bristol will have heard of this famed Bristol land mark, almost none will have ever had the chance to witness it in the flesh.

I propose that a replacement could be built, retaining a mock tudor fascia, but with modern useable space inside to house perhaps an arts centre, independent shops, etc...

Many streets were lost around the castle green area and it would be great i feel to revitalise the space (which is already popular with people) inline with what has been acheived at Quakers Friars, whilst still utilising an independent traders ethos.

Why the contribution is important

Because Bristol is proudly independent

Because the character of an old building like the Dutch House, would be a talking point

Because it would generate jobs and bring in business

Because it would improve what currently is an eyeore

I think it is a good idea in theory, but you will probably get the BCCmoderator along in a moment telling you there is no money in the budget for it.......

I've always felt this to be a great loss to Bristol, and was pleased to see The Mayor getting behind the idea of reconstructing the building. This has been done on many occasions elsewhere in Europe - I've visited many a 'medieval' square in Germany, reconstructed in the 1950s following wartime destruction. There's no reason we cannot do similar.

Having looked at the link posted by bccmoderator, I love this idea!

The centre of Bristol used to be such a beautiful place, judging from old photos. It is nothing less than a tragedy that it was blitzed in WW2. I agree with the mayor's obervations (read the article linked to above) and think it's a great idea to rebuild this fantastic building, and to use it as an arts centre and for independent retailers.

    Thanks for proposing this idea.

Really good idea. Europeans reconstruct their lost treasures - why can't we?
