More wind turbines at Avonmouth

We already have 9 wind turbines at Avonmouth, which is an excellent location for them. One of the public's main objection to wind turbines is when they are located on greenfield sites. Cities such as Bristol rarely have such an opportunity to own commercial scale wind turbines on their own land. We already have 2....let's have a couple more!

Why the contribution is important

Because it gives Bristol the opportunity to increase security of electricity supply and generate an income.

Where would you put the 2 new ones you'd like the council to build?

The existing project took many years to complete:

Hi bccmoderator, probably not intended but your comment sounds rather negative. I think more city/community owned wind turbines is a great idea that could generate income for the city. If there are more good locations within the city that's great, but they would not actually need to be located within the city boundaries, the most windy locations in the country could be more cost and energy efficient.

This could go together with BCC ESCO doing energy efficiency work - insulation, heat recovery etc (eg combined heat/power, heat recovery from waste shower water to heat incoming, ventilation with heat recovery, ...), which still has a long way to go, and if the right local economic system can be found for funding this would be a real winner on jobs and economic benefits.

We have assessed the whole Avonmouth area and in particular the land that the Council owns as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment that we carried out before the 2 wind turbines were built. There is space for more wind turbines in this area but not on Council owned land.

We have also assessed other potential sites that we own in the city.
