Schools Bus

A school bus service for all schools. Collection points around edge of town, where parents can let their children board a bus to take them to school. This is not school specific, it is route specific, with drop-off at more than one school.

I would be happy to assist with this, to consider viability in more detail.

Why the contribution is important

The aim of this idea is to reduce traffic at peak hours: when parents drive their children to school.

Would the transport be free to use? Who would provide supervision on the bus, especially for the younger children?
What sort of distance would the bus cover (ie would it cover a large area, meaning those at the beginning of the route would be on the bus a long time both there & back?)Its a good idea in theory but would need lots of careful planning.

Who would pay for this? Don't forget the council must save £90m over the next 3 years as a result of reductions in central government funding and growing demand for services.

This talk by Enrique Peñalosa, the mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, between 1998 and 2000, suggests the high priority that buses deserve. his point is very eloquent and practical. He advocates for sustainability and mobility in the cities of the future. Here is his TED.com talk http://www.ted.com/talks/en[…]nt_democracy_in_action.html
