waste collection

Collect waste on a two shift system ie day and night 7days a week. this then means that you only need less than half the amount of truck. These trucks can be fitted with extra lighting for safety . Night collections work well in maditeranean countrys so why not in the uk. .the collection workers on night shift could be paid extra for unsocial  hours and you wouls still reap a fortune in savings I tried to get somerset  county council and Boris in london interested but no go as yet.

This must be one of your largest expenses which could be easily reduced

Why the contribution is important

saving a fortune on vehicle leasing

at-least during the summer months.. we get abundant sunlight until 21:00 Hours.. so this could be a great option..

Seems lime a really simple idea but I bet you ll get loads of people moaning about the noise. I suspect that that's why it hadn't been taken up.

The answer to people moaning about the noise (and I think you're right) is to pilot a scheme first. Though assessing it would be an expense..... And there's also the option of investigating how well it works in other countries, and how people respond there to such schemes. But it makes sense, and even if it meant some potential disturbance to light sleepers, it would reduce obstructions on the roads during the day.

I'm not convinced that one-off savings on truck purchase would exceed the costs of consistently paying for unsocial hours. I also think that the effects of sleep disturbance are being too lightly brushed aside in some comments; a lot of people in our area are already suffering seriously from the effects of unnecessary night-time noise, and anything that would exacerbate that should surely be robustly fought.
